It would be way cool to have a number search site that we could use to determine if a gun was stolen. If you turn in your insurance claim to the NRA you might have to give them numbers. If you were going to buy a gun you would have its number to search with. You wouldn't have to see all of the numbers to search. Just put one in and it could tell you if a theft report was made on that number and where it was stolen.
