Pet Mastery makes pet training more efficient and allows players to feed their pets automatically. Pet Happiness fuels actions like activating talents, and the addition of forty brand new Talents, including Adventuring Talents and Combat Talents, opens a whole new realm of pet possibilities.
There are also new pets on the way, and the new Pet Promenade event, giving players more ways to play with pets than ever before. Pets aren't the only aspect of the game being updated and expanded upon with this release.

You can buy snacks from the snack shops or buy a recipe and craft them. Recipes for snacks can be found on Recipe Vendors throughout the Spiral. Snacks increase your pet's statistics and make them increase in rank faster.
Try to figure out which snacks your pet likes by seeing how much your pet's statistics increase each time you feed it. You will receive a message about your pet's approval of the snack; 'Your pet ate this snack. Your Energy governs how often you may train your pet. It refills over time, but if you need more Energy and cannot abide, you may purchase an Energy Elixir from the Crown Shop.
If you don't train your pet, it won't grow up, so it's very important to pay attention to your pet and train it as much as you can. Repeat the arrow sequence from the screen bottom. Each round the sequence gets longer. The game ends after 5 rounds or 3 failures. Pick a food and guide your pet to catch as much as it can before time runs out. Avoid falling dangers and try for bonus items! Fire your pet at the target, adjusting direction, angle and power.
Bypass obstacles and adjust for wind speed to keep on target. Control direction and angle with your arrow keys. Adjust the cannon power with the power gauge. Use the Space bar or Fire button to shoot. Lead your pet through the maze, avoid the ghosts and collect as much food as you can before time runs out. Once your pet has become a teen, it can participate in the Pet Derby! All the work you've been doing with your pets in the mini games will help them in the Pet Derby.
All pets in the Pet Derby race around a track for three laps, and must overcome and bypass obstacles to the best of their abilities. Pets can even create obstacles for other pets! Your pet gains morale by overcoming obstacles. You can spend that morale to cheer your pet on and make it go faster, so spend it wisely! The Practice Pet Derby is a good way to learn the course and obstacles for each different track, and to see which track is best suited for your pet.
In the Ranked Pet Derby, your pet will race against other pets, with prizes such as Arena Tickets or gold. More importantly, when choosing your pet, don't worry about the pedigree. The Talents a pet can learn are much more important, and most of the useful Talents in battle are merely rare. These are not shown on your pet's page, nor will the game keep track of them for you.
You'll have to do that yourself, but the pet pages here in the Wiki can certainly help. Your pet's favorite snacks are very good to know. Which snacks your pet likes and loves are determined by its breed. Every Piggle has the same favorites as every other Piggle, etc. Pets will always at least like snacks in their own school. They will also at least like at least one generic type of snack such as veggies, fruits, or spicy It could be that some snacks belong to more than one generic type.
These types are not ever specified in the game but there is "evidence" that this "typing" is coded into the snacks in the July update : The quote under snacks is: "The humble Tomato will remain in the veggie aisle" the assumption is that it will do so even though a tomato is a fruit. If you find a type of snack a pet likes, and then you find a snack of that type that is also in it's school, it is highly likely to be a loved snack. There is no right or wrong way to train your pet.
But, when faced with the prospect of training several pets to find the best, or training a pet to Epic, it's best to have a plan. Epic can take as little as one week or as much as three. Planning ahead can save you lots of time and effort. High level players can train a pet to Teen within minutes of hatching. Lower level players, or players with pet energy empty when their egg hatches, can still have a Teen within eleven hours. Epic will take 5. A grandmaster with a good plan can have an Epic pet in about nine days.
High level players who are not yet grandmasters about level 35 or 40 , gaining a level a day, can use the pet energy refill when they level up to their advantage, getting to Epic in just under a week. No one is good at every pet game their first try. But you need max points from them if you don't want to add lots of time to your training.
Practice, practice, practice! If you simply can't get the hang of a particular game, other games offer "split" versions which can help.
